About Ms. CareyHello, its Ms. Carey! :) I am the 6th grade Math and STEM teacher here at Milan Middle School. Before working at the middle school, I was the Math Intervention teacher over at Symons Elementary also in Milan, MI. The 2015/2016 school year will be my first full year of teaching as well as your first year of being a middle schooler!
I grew up in Saline, MI just a few miles down the road. I graduated from Saline High School with a love of mathematics. I continued my education at Central Michigan University where I studied Language Arts and Mathematics. During my studies in Mt. Pleasant, I had the chance to teach in a variety of classrooms ranging from a 1st grade classroom in Clare, MI all the way to weekly educational day camps to a 3rd grade classroom in Oaxaca, Mexico! I completed my undergraduate Student Teaching placement in Mrs. Kerns' 5th grade classroom at Symons and then graduated from CMU in December of 2014. My hobbies and interests include the following: Exercising (lifting weights/running), Photography, Hanging out with Friends and Family, Traveling (up north Michigan is my favorite), Crafts and DIY, Bargain/Resale shopping, Puzzles and Card Games, Playing with my dog Wayne, Cooking and Eating Healthy Meals, and of course Teaching! I love math--always have and always will. It was the one subject throughout my education that never ceased to excite me. Yes, it frustrates and challenges me, but it also pushes me to be a better teacher and helps me better understand my world. This year, I hope to guide you towards this passion and excitement regarding mathematics. Together, we will challenge ourselves, look deeper into the math surrounding us, and explore concepts that will make us more successful mathematicians. We may struggle at times, but we will never give up.
